Today.is.Friday.
To top that off, it's a short finals schedule. But there was a great deal
of stuff to get done this morning so I needed to get moving – had to pack, get
things ready, do a quick clean…. Still –
school is finished for a while – until a real class, anyway – and things are
good. A thousand-pound weight off my
shoulder. School went well – a gentle
perfect drizzle made Friday before break and a Hips weekend all the more
perfect.
When I got home, Carolene was already there, which was perfect as it saved a length note. I left later than anticipated, but not by much. There was rain all the way down. I listened to more TED and broadened my world. Learning while driving…I love that. Traffic was ridiculous outside of the city. It took me an hour for a usual 15 minute drive…I’m seeing a pattern and correlating it to the time of year. Still – Map-Dude got me to the Phoenix in one piece and there was my parking spot. I felt successful.
The hotel was AMAZING! A fancy retro 50s place where the Dead and Janis Joplin used to party. I half expected To see Sean Connery come sauntering out in a full tux with his martini shaken, not stirred. It was glamorous, indeed…and the man who worked the front desk was amazing. J Saw a group of all the regulars – the many fantastic Hips folks…This is a mini Hipnic. I hadn’t eaten much, so I wandered around until I found a Pho place – not hard to do in this area, and enjoyed a nice quite dinner.
The show was incredible.... I have finally advanced to the state where I travel and move about – though several people asked me why I wasn’t in my usual spot. When I did make it up front, it was a treat it was to see the four wives of the Hips talking and laughing together. And to think not too many hours ago I was in a classroom.
Back to the hotel - due to the enclosed pool area courtyard, noise could be a problem, so I appreciated the hotels strict policy of no outside socializing after midnight. We moved a few folks to our room: Royce, Cindy & Dan. Naturally it was primarily Hips talk. Convoy, other local bands..the 6 degrees of separation. After they left, my bank card/license was missing. The only explanation was that Royce had picked it up. Time for sleep.
