After school I headed to the garage to check out my bus. A
guy around 22 was working on a car, but he came over and we started
talking. He explained a lot to me. His first thought was that it was the air
intake valve, since it’s an air-cooled engine.
Then the owner appeared and we did some talking. He was really sweet and said they could let
me watch to see and learn, since VWs are such simple engines…. I was suddenly excited again. I saw a group of the tow truck guys standing
there. I didn’t stop to see if any of them
were dude. I let me ego get hold of me
the other day….good grief. I’m actually
a little embarrassed at what I thought.
I called German Auto Werks and left a message that they would be working
on it, but I’d be by soon and received a message from Drew not to long after
letting me know that was fine but I needed to make sure the right oil was put
in – it needed to be a petroleum-based Lucas oil 20/50, that it couldn’t be a
synthetic. Then we talked for a bit and
he said it sounded like an air intake issue (!) but that those parts needed to
be rebuilt because they weren’t, manufactured anymore….So, the bus will be moved
to GAW tomorrow. Hopefully the bill won’t
be too much, but I’m worried. I wonder
if it wouldn’t be cheaper to get a Subaru engine and out it in. I know they do that for Vanagon’s, would it
not work in a Westy?
Off to Lindsay and Brian’s to take of some bidness. Lots of fun talking and hanging out with cute
Sophia and her new Brian haircut. I
learned a lot about difficult door locks – just treat them smooth, like a woman
and the key slides right out.
I stopped by an old haunt (where I was remembered) and got
some nachos for my dinner. I watched The
Office at home as I ate and laughed so hard.
I have a simple life, busy, but simple.
I do not require much (though I miss my bus) and I am certainly overpaid.
