April 2, 2015

Up until three a.m.  I think the adrenaline from the excitement stayed in me for too long and I couldn’t get to sleep, so I hung out on Face Book and munched on Fritos.  We used to give our sheep Daisy Fritos.  We got her as a little lamb (we had Tanya the lion at the same time) and I remember nursing Daisy with the green glass 7-Up bottles with a black rubber nipple attached.  It is only recently that I’ve begun to associate Fritos with chili rather than Daisy.  Time moves on….

I awoke after four hours but absolutely refused to get up, managing another couple of hours sleep.  I had another interesting dream (the night before last it was about still owning La Bodega, having a board meeting and The Brother Comatose).  Once I did wake up for good, I made some nice strong coffee and lounged.  I felt a little guilty, having explained to my kids the night before that it is almost impossible to “vacation” at home because there is always something that must be done.  Naturally, there were things that needed to be done here after our six hour camping trip, namely clean everything up.  I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it- the rush from the night before came back and I was so excited for our next adventure.

Sweet Maggie kept the camping trip going, too, by making us a lavish breakfast on cast iron: homemade pancakes <so good – thank you, Sabol, for the recipe!>, bacon and eggs.  We watched a Nature special about the Snow Monkeys in the Japanese Alps.  I was deciding on whether or not to head to Kombi Haus (VW shop) in Sac, but first needed to drop  Maggie off at her friend’s house.  Just after I dropped her off, my neighbor let me know he was heading home, so Ethan and I made a quick trip to REI to use my dividend check for fuel and a few other things.  Somehow I “made” money by buying the stuff and received money back – I saw later he didn’t charge me for the fuel, so tomorrow we will go back so I can pay for them.  I’m wondering about getting the Yeti ice packs – no way I’d get a cooler, but the ice packs I could use in the bus’s ice books.

SHE WAS SMILING AT ME AGAIN!!!  She looked so nice sitting there…Mike told me to just come on by whenever and they would show me various things about her.  The motor sounds stronger than ever, the battery is strong.  I’m still not sure why there is no charge from the auxiliary battery, but my manuals will be here in a few days, so I’m happy.  Ethan wanted to go to the river, so we grabbed the food we never cooked this morning and headed out with the dogs.  I made my very first meal in Lizzie Mae today – though it wasn’t super terrific(breakfast burritos) it sure was a grand feeling to pop the top up and cook.  Annie is hilarious in that bus.  She climbs up on the counter where the sink and stove are and keeps flies off every time I hit a curve or brake.     You’d think she would have learned the time she flew out of the window when I was on my way hiking, but nope.  She keeps on.

The boy and I took it very easy tonight – I made us lots of honey lemon tea (we need to head to Independence for more honey soon and will stop off in Bodie, too).  We watched more Nature on Netflix and enjoyed each others company.

Pictures:  Pollen, pollen, everywhere.  I can't imagine what it's like to suffer allergies;  Mabi watches with concern as her young pup<sorts> is out frolicking with Ethan.  Maybe she understands me better now..it's tough to be Mama; <Ethan shot the next two>An old farm house in Gold Hill; A perfect ending to the day.

*I would like to honor the birthday of a man I once knew.  He died about 16 years ago (yesterday) and his birthday is today.  He struggled from bipolar disorder and alcoholism, never sober for long periods of time and was only 7 months older than I . Happy birthday, C.M.M.  <3
