And so...the weekend came to a close. Last cars left camp, we were among the last to leave. Yet we packed up with music still going and looking forward to next year. I have reserved site 9 again. We shall return.
I headed out and my heart was full as I saw the Big Sur ocean. I listened to Ian Moore and was happy. Stopped at the same Chevron and...a 1976 VW Westfalia stopped right behind me! This was driven by the son-in-law of the original owners...and he was in his late 60s. It did not look good, but it was clear VW <it hadn't been named> was well loved.
The journey was wonderful. A huge accident in San Jose, but Lizzie Mae handled it all with ease. I filled up twice again, but was never ableto get more than 5 gallons in her. Next projects are: gas tank/gauge, heater, window seals, and check for exhaust leak, but this baby is doing fine and is ready for CalPine and HSMF.
I arrived home around 5:30 and first thing I did after letting the dogs in was to unload the dishwasher (????). This confuses me greatly. I then unloaded the entire bus, got laundry started, showered, made dinner and started writing.
I am one hell of a lucky person. I was able to meet so many people face-to-face for the first time and was reunited with some very special people. These excursions are magical to me and every time I leave I wonder..can I really leave this to move to Europe? I KNOW they have fests there, too, but the people I have met through The Mother Hips are unlike any others. Shoot. If I fall for a guy here who digs the same music, I'm screwed <and I meant that figuratively>.
