I slept like heaven in that glorious bed-it was like sleeping
on a marshmallow. The alarm went off and I knew it couldn't be ignored-when can
it? Mags was up right away also, turning on the light. I knew they were anxious
to get home. We dressed and just as I got off the phone with the front desk,
asking about the shuttle and an early to-go breakfast , I received a text from Delta letting me know the flight was delayed 45 minutes then another that our connecting flight had been rebooked.
We headed down to the breakfast room and treated
ourselves to fresh pineapple one last time.
Then off in the shuttle bus and into a brief clusterfuck (as I heard it
referred to and I must agree) of cars. We arrived at San Jose Airport. There
was an exit tax to pay before we could even get in line to security to enter
the airport and all sorts of other little issues, but nothing like in the
US.. There was a man strumming guitar
and selling his CDs in the airport I
wish I had the money to buy one, but I had systematically rid myself of all my
remaining colones, even buying Ethan and Maggie a memorial gift in the airport
for our grand adventure.
Eventually it was time to board, at which point their TSA
began. My steel MH bottle of water? I had to quickly drink it. Maggie's 3.3 ounce (but more than halfway
empty) of body spray? We talked them out
of confiscating it. Much easier than the
US TSA.
The flight was long-ish, but not bad. I watched Will Ferrell in " Get
Hard" and my laughter embarrassed the kids. Finally in L.A., our next plan was a bit
delayed, but it was worth it-the kids and I were upgraded to first class. Soon, we landed and after having to locate
our luggage, which had made the first flight, we found Carolene and headed
home.
The drive was sooo long.
So many traffic accidents, that I drove around in SF for a bit, then we
exited in Pinole and had dinner. After
another 5 hours since our arrival at SFO, we made it home. I immediately started unpacking, but my
dizziness was still holding me up, so I took it easy and went to bed. What a glorious adventure I had with my
kids. I learned a lot about traveling to
exotic locations, a lot about the reasons behind "high" and
"low" seasons for tourists and how much I love hanging out with my
kids.
Pictures: The kids
were excited about going home; Saying goodbye to the airport sloth; A sunset
over San Francisco Ethan caught from our restaurant table; Movie - I watched my
Dave on Sonic Highways (I still haven't seen it). His last words here are "Wow, that's
fucked up!" I heart him.
