Woke up quite sore this morning, but it’s been a while since
I’ve slept that deeply. The excitement factor
made getting back to the project quite easy, so after my coffee, I headed out. I’d
been working about 15 minutes when Sweet Camille from next-door came over.
We talked for a while - so glad
she’ll be moving here from Berlin in December!!! She offered to help out, went home to grab
her shovel and helped out for about 45
minutes..
Ethan and I worked couple of hours. My neighbor Terry walked over and was impressed with the job we were doing…. Said we could maybe rent a machine which would cut off the layer of grass, but I’m a poor person. I rely on labor. I will not lie, I had texted L the night before in response to his question on Ethan needing anything for an immersion trip next week. I said he needed L to come watch his form, etc. to make sure Ethan had the strength for the ropes course they would be doing. This morning, I had asked L again, in some funny fashion about his assisting us. Ethan had just finished texting him about borrowing his roto tiller when L showed up! He helped out for a couple of hours. The neighbors whose yard had inspired me also dropped by, as well as the postman (who, oddly, never did show up again at 4 to help out) This is such a great neighborhood, except for Emmitt (who is doing his job by being the grumpy old man who yells at people).
After L left, Ethan and I continued the job, motivated and sure we could finish up by sundown. I had to pick up Mags, who was not very inspired to help out, but maybe she will be tomorrow. Ethan was on fire today. Sweet Brent came over for emotional support, some naughtily-laced innuendo jokes which made Ethan grin and 80s music (when Brent went back to his house Ethan said "he's so awesome").
Brent ordered us a pizza to share with cheese bread and anchovies (he was very concerned about our Omega 3 intake), which we enjoyed in our living room. Such a sweet man and a wonderful neighbor. In a few weeks we'll go to Faces for some dancing and the check out the guys <wicked grin>. Ethan even demonstrated a firecracker for him.
After dinner, I tried desperately to do a little more work outside but sadly my arms weren't listening to what my brain was telling them to do, so I decided I was done for the day after about 8 to 9 hours of work. We managed over 3/4s of the yard. Tomorrow I'll get a little bit more done and hopefully we can go by the nursery and pick out a couple of plants to start with. Nice cold shower to wash of the layers of dirt. I had such a nicely tanned face and now it's all sadly washed down the drain. We'll watch more Doctor Who and then bed!

Every time I think of you, I always catch my breath
And I'm still standing here, and you're miles away
And I'm wonderin' why you left
And there's a storm that's raging through my frozen heart tonight
And I'm still standing here, and you're miles away
And I'm wonderin' why you left
And there's a storm that's raging through my frozen heart tonight
I hear your name in certain circles, and it always makes me smile
I spend my time thinkin' about you, and it's almost driving me wild
And there's a heart that's breaking down this long distance line tonight
I ain't missing you at all since you've been gone away
I ain't missing you, no matter what I might say
There's a message in the wire, and I'm sending you this signal tonight
You don't know how desperate I've become
And it looks like I'm losing this fight
In your world I have no meaning, though I'm trying hard to understand
And it's my heart that's breaking down this long distance line tonight
[Chorus]
I ain't missing you at all since you've been gone away
I ain't missing you, no matter what my friends say
And there's a message that I'm sending out, like a telegraph to your soul
And if I can't bridge this distance, stop this heartbreak overload
Et cetera, et cetera. That makes me think of train rides in Austria and a summer long ago….
Picture: the guardin' gnomes are on duty watching our tools until tomorrow morning.
