February 17, 2015

I am struggling like a two year old who is learning that sometimes, things don’t go our way.  I am learning to be different at work.  Ok, granted, today was Day One, so this could easily be a passing phase, but I am attempting to simply do my job.  That’s all.

I received a fancy little email during my lunch break – the summary of my first week with my FitBit.  Initially I was very pleased, but then I remembered it takes 3,500 calories burned to lose a pound…and I never reached that.  However, I did do a lot of activity considering I was needing to take it easy and have been inspired. Over 32 miles walked in a week and average sleep is 8 hours and 53 minutes.  <smile>  That’s some kinda awesome. I saw a picture of myself after our bike ride yesterday that Maggie shot.  Holy hell to Moses.  Those boobs scare me.

I was excited to pop on the first year’s 680 a.m. in hopes of hearing a little pre-Pitchers and Catchers report talk, but was disappointed when I heard Warriors talk.  <errg>  I’m only a basketball fan if it’s 1986-1987 AISZ-girls-basketball-team-talk.  I was “Ali, the Texas Tomato,” due to my red converse high tops. <badass in theory, but not really good at basketball>

2 more fabulous hours with my supervisor.  I have a potential new client if I can maneuver the times, so we’ll see.  Lots of paperwork to organize at home later, which I managed as The Boy struggled to write.  Well, he didn’t actually write.  He just struggled.  I am honestly not sure how to help and if my help further hinders him.  I hope my sitting nearby helps him at least a little.  My Maggie is in her room, working away at her science report at this moment.  No struggles, not with school, anyway.  I wonder what the difference is?

I think one tremendous difference is reading.  I was a reader, and though my report cards may haver reflected differently, I had the ability.  Maggie is also a voracious reader.  I think reading feeds to brain and teaches so many subtle lessons which we are not aware of.  For the most part, I am very good with writing.  I may not be sure what various parts of speech are, but I know where they belong, and that’s because of reading.  Yesterday, I heard one of the greatest things.  Ethan telling me about a book (the second one) in a series of 12 books and then, as I asked who was going to accompany me into the store, Ethan replies, “I’m gonna stay in the car and read.”  THAT made me smile.
